Political analysts and observers mocked President Donald Trump on Tuesday after he made a stunning claim about immigration during an interview with Fox News' Laura Ingraham.
Trump has repeatedly said he wants to reduce the number of immigrants coming to the United States to "protect" American workers. However, when Ingraham asked him about a particular visa program during the interview, Trump said it was necessary to bring in "talent" because there aren't enough talented workers in the country.
"There's never been a country like the one we have right now, and Republicans have to talk about it," Trump said.
"Does that mean that H1-B visas won't be a priority in your administration?" Ingraham asked. "Because if you want to raise wages for American workers, you can't flood the country with tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands, of foreign workers."
"I agree, but we also do have to bring in talent," Trump retorted.
"But, we have plenty of talent!" Ingraham shot back.
"No you don't," Trump said, shaking his head.
Political observers shared their thoughts about Trump's comments on social media.
"Trump says Americans don’t have the talent to work high skill factory jobs," Ben Meiselas, co-founder of MediasTouch, posted on X.
"A lucid moment for Trump when it comes to immigration and immigrants," Josh Breisblatt, Democratic counsel on the House Judiciary subcommittee on immigration, posted on X.
"I’m sorry, MAGA," political commentator Ron Filipkowski posted on X. "I’ve heard you for many years say what you believe in. If you follow this and most of the rest of what he said in this interview you are nothing but a personality cult of frauds who believe in nothing except worshipping a con man."
Ingraham: Does that mean the h-1b visa thing will not be a big priority for your administration?
Trump: You have to bring in talent
Ingraham: We have plenty of talent
