GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — It's an air of cheer. It's volunteers working diligently, yet joyfully, to collect, sort and wrap gifts. And it's rows upon rows of gift bags ready to be delivered to children across the area for the holidays.

"It warms everybody's heart."

That's the spirit of the Santa Claus Girls of Kent County , headed by President Tina Hudson.

"We started in 1908 in Park Church [in] downtown Grand Rapids," Hudson explained. "The secretary there realized some families were in desperate need, and she made a collection, and started with just a couple of families and a few dollars. And it's exploded now to where we are today."

The non-profit now provides toys and winter wear to thousands of kids in need each year.
