With solemn reverence and reflection, a large crowd of all ages gathered at the Port Elgin Cenotaph at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 to honour and remember the courage, service and sacrifice of all who served in conflict.

The Remembrance Day service staged by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 340 included prayer, music – bag pipes, voices singing O, Canada and God Save the King, a trumpeter’s haunting Last Post and Reveille – and the laying of wreaths by local dignitaries, students and the great-great-granddaughters of Veteran reg Turner.

As well, Ret. Lt. Navy Pam Mather laid a wreath representing Silver Cross Mothers.

Legion Remembrance Day Chair Norma Dudgeon said they owe a debt of gratitude for the sacrifices made by those who served.
