HOWARD, Wis. (WBAY) - On Veterans Day, we hear the story of an unforgettable Thanksgiving between two brothers serving our country decades ago.
It’s one of many stories that this 97-year-old World War II veteran, who lives in Howard, has about his time overseas.
Meet Bob Charles. He is a 97-year-old World War II veteran who’s proud of the years he spent fighting for our country.
“That we were doing something for our country, I thought. We knew we had to go into the service. I didn’t have to go, but I would have gotten drafted when I was 18. We all went because we thought it was necessary, and I think it was,” Charles said.
He’s always happy to share a story about his service, including one about needing to get rid of his skipper’s jeep.
