A new report — called Safe Housing for Ensuring Long Term Resilience — is calling on the incoming Mamdani administration to address the climate crisis as soon as possible.

The report links climate policy with the city’s housing needs as the five boroughs continue to see extreme weather events more frequently.

The report finds that more than 19,000 homes across the city are at risk of being lost to coastal flooding by 2040, which is only expected to get worse if current climate trends continue.

Karla Sosa, a project manager at the Environmental Defense Fund, which co-authored the report, joined “Inside City Hall” on Tuesday.
