CARTHAGE, Ill. (WGEM) - Members of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Boy Scouts held a Veterans Day service outside the Hancock County Courthouse Tuesday.
A large group gathered in the cold to thank and honor all who served.
“This is what I do every year. I’ve done this for, oh heavens, probably almost 60 years now and just being a veteran is something I’m proud of, proud to serve my country and I think everybody, all young men and women should serve,” said Dan Harnetiaux, of the Hancock County Honor Guard, Retired Air Force.
Veterans that spoke at the service said it’s important to honor all who served in the military, in wartime and peacetime.
