ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. —
A deputy in Rockingham County, North Carolina, has been fired and arrested after he was accused of sexually assaulting an inmate.
Just after 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, a deputy was informed of an alleged sexual assault involving another Rockingham County deputy and a female inmate. The information was relayed to Sheriff Sam Page, who immediately requested the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to investigate.
As a result of the investigation, 32-year-old Christopher Lee Garrison was fired from his position at the sheriff's office and charged with felony sexual activity by a substitute parent or custodian.
The law applies to multiple situations including:
A person who has assumed the position of a parent in the home of a minor and engages in a sexual act
