BOSTON —

Three local Vietnam War veterans made a surprise appearance in a second-grade classroom at South Boston Catholic Academy on Tuesday as part of their Veteran's Day celebration.

The visit, organized by Hanscom Federal Credit Union, featured a special book created by the classroom, titled "What it Takes to Be in the Military."

Each student contributed a page with an illustration and a personal description of what they believe it takes to serve in the armed forces.

Veterans Dan Marotta, Tom McCarthy, and Lew Kneeland took part in the visit, sharing stories and answering the students' questions about their military experience.
