ST. PAUL, Minn. (GRAY) – After more than a month of stalemate, the U.S. Congress appears poised to end a government shutdown in the coming days.
The latest development comes after a handful of Senate Democrats agreed to vote with Republicans, allowing the chamber to reach the 60 votes needed for cloture.
The Senate voted to move a continuing resolution forward on Monday night, and the House is expected to vote on the continuing resolution (CR) as early as Wednesday.
The final deal would pass a CR through January 1st and dictates that Republicans will commit to holding a vote on whether to extend healthcare premium tax subsidies. The agreement does not commit to extending the credits, only to holding a vote on the matter.
