In a historic show of strength at the ballot box, women voters in Bihar exceeded men in both phases of the high-stakes Assembly polls, pushing the state’s overall turnout to 66.91 per cent, the highest since 1951 , the Election Commission of India (ECI) said.
According to Election Commission figures, the state's overall women voter turnout stood at 71.6 per cent.
In the first phase of voting on November 6, 69.04 per cent of women voted compared to 61.56 per cent of men. In the second and final phase on Tuesday, women's voter turnout increased further to 74.03 per cent, while the men's voter turnout was only 64.1 per cent.
Overall, the gender turnout ratio stood at 62.8 per cent for men and 71.6 per cent for women, a massive 9 percentage point difference.
