PRINCEVILLE ( 25News Now ) - Students at Princeville Junior-Senior High School paused their school day Tuesday to honor local veterans through a program that has been entirely student-led for more than 30 years.
Students from kindergarten through high school gathered in the school’s gym to recognize veterans in their community.
The ceremony included heartfelt letters of appreciation written by students, who also organized and ran the entire program.
“We just want to show veterans the new generation really does appreciate them,” said Ryan Butterfield, a Princeville junior. “Without our veterans, we wouldn’t be a free country. Without the veterans, we couldn’t enjoy the liberties we have today.”
Students believe the initiative teaches younger generations about the importance of service
