HANOVER, Va. (WWBT) - A Hanover family said their 12-year-old son is being separated from the service dog that helps him get through the day.
Tuesday night, they took their fight to the Hanover County School Board, claiming the district isn’t following federal law.
One by one, the Kreitz family and a handful of supporters asked the school board to let the service dog, Wendy, into Chickahominy Middle School with Charlie Kreitz.
“Denying Wendy is like denying a child their wheelchair,” Rebecca Kreitz, sister to Charlie, told the board.
Wendy came into Charlie’s life over the summer after the dog was trained by Canine Companions .
Matt Kreitz said his son has autism and panic disorder, but since getting Wendy, it’s been a world of difference.
