NILES, Mich. (WNDU) - Although the Indiana state government began processing partial SNAP payments Tuesday, an estimated 4,000 households will not receive a partial disbursement. They will have to wait until full funding is restored.

To help those struggling to put food on the table, Niles restaurant Taqueria Don Chepe is offering free, prepaid meals for the community.

16 News Now visited the restaurant Tuesday afternoon.

For the last 10 years, the Mendoza family has served the Niles community a fiesta of Mexican flavors at Taqueria Don Chepe.

When we talked with siblings and co-managers Peter and Magnolia Mendoza, they repeatedly stressed the importance of familial bonds. They say they view the local community as an extension of their own family, and you always take care of family.
