COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Take a look north tonight away from city lights because the Northern Lights are out!
The Northern Lights are making an appearance over South Carolina tonight (November 11). The KP Index surged to 8.67 making them visible over the state of South Carolina. Best viewing is away from city lights and to the north from 11pm to 3am, during the darkest part of night.
A solar storm or coronal mass ejection is occurring tonight into Wednesday, which means we will see more opportunities for northern lights possibly Wednesday night as well.
We are in a solar maximum meaning the sun is putting out more energy toward the Earth during this time.
