In the nation’s capital, the House Rules Committee met Tuesday to take up a funding package to reopen the government. Lawmakers are expected to vote on Wednesday.
With a possible end to the shutdown in sight, the Supreme Court extended the freeze on a lower court ruling ordering the Trump administration to pay full Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, benefits in November.
That means, for now, the government does not have to distribute about $4 billion in additional SNAP funding. The Supreme Court’s pause remains in place until midnight on Thursday.
Some SNAP payments have trickled in for some recipients in North Texas, but many people say they’re not receiving even half their normal pay.
