CORALVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) - The wife of a Coralville man deported earlier this year is asking the city to provide more protections from ICE agents through a workplace safety resolution.
The proposed resolution would call for fourth amendment protections from unreasonable searches and seizures and push for city employees to ask to see warrants before allowing ICE into non-public areas.
Escucha Mi Voz, an immigrant rights group, said the resolution could prevent dangerous public arrests.
Jazmine Meza made a personal request for Coralville to adopt the resolution Tuesday night.
“I’m here today, my husband was deported about 6 months ago and I’m here today to ask for support of the resolution,” Meza said through an interpreter.
Meza immigrated to Coralville from Honduras with her children.
