SUMTER, S.C. — Some Sumter County residents are voicing concerns over a proposed rezoning request that could change a property near their homes from agricultural to heavy industrial use.
During Monday night’s county council meeting, members approved the first reading of the rezoning request, moving it one step closer to a public hearing in the coming weeks.
The roughly two-acre property sits off 1650 S. Guignard Pkwy. According to county documents , the current owner purchased the land in 2020 and previously requested it be rezoned from agricultural to general commercial to develop a car stereo retail and installation business. That request was ultimately denied by council.
