SHREVEPORT, La. — Shreveport police say new patrol vehicles are on track to arrive early next year as part of an ongoing modernization effort.
The department also unveiled details about two mobile command centers that have become a fixture at major events, from the fairgrounds to downtown festivals.
During Monday’s Public Safety Committee meeting, Police Chief Wayne Smith said the department’s older command unit -- a converted SporTran bus -- has been stationed at the State Fair for the entire event, along with the department’s Skywatch tower.
“The old SporTran bus was our first command vehicle, and it’s at the fair for the entire duration,” Smith said. “Our Skywatch is there too.”
