A Brownsville veteran and his family were left without a home after it was destroyed in a fire.
The home in a neighborhood off Paredes Line and Price roads caught on fire on Friday evening, forcing James Patrick Morales and his family to leave everything behind.
“This was the family home. This was Easter, Thanksgivings, Christmas, the aunts, uncles, cousins… [where we played] tackle football in the yard,” Morales said.
Morales' grandmother has lived in the home since it was built in the 1970s. He moved in with her and his dad about a year ago.
When the fire broke out, Morales said everything happened quickly.
“There was stuff popping and glass exploding,” Morales said. “We have a live in nurse who helps care take for my grandma, and she came running to me screaming, ‘Jaime, Jaime ther
