Figures showing attacks on police officers in Scotland at a 10-year high should give us all cause for concern.
Last year there were 8068 police assaults – almost 30 per cent higher than 2015. Cops are being punched, kicked and even stabbed while out on patrol or responding to 999 calls.
However, police officers are not the only emergency workers being targeted by the yobs.
Firefighters and paramedics are coming under attack on an almost daily basis when answering calls.
Shopworkers are also experiencing growing violence when confronting shoplifters and other thieves. Not to forget the daily risks faced by prison officers keeping inmates under control.
