OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Open Door Mission hosted a special ceremony Monday night to honor veterans who fought for the nation and are now facing homelessness.

Leaders at the shelter say many of the veterans they serve suffer from post-traumatic stress after surviving attacks, bombings and the deaths of their friends in the service.

That’s why it’s important to them to recognize their sacrifice on Veterans Day.

“So tonight on Veterans Day, what we do is we recognize all the people who have served,” said Steve Frazee, chief impact officer at Open Door Mission.

“You know, a lot of time folks don’t feel that they’re deserving to be honored, but regardless of your station in life currently, we want to make sure everyone knows that we appreciate their service.”
