DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - St. Louis County is launching a new program to help veterans involved in treatment court find healing through music.
The initiative, funded through criminal forfeiture proceeds, will use music therapy to support veterans coping with trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder.
The St. Louis County attorney’s office has committed $12,000 to cover enrollment costs for local veterans who participate in the program.
Vietnam Veteran David Nyquist knows firsthand the long-lasting effects of service.
“Yeah, it’s emotional,” said Nyquist. “It was not a good time, but I made it back. I came back to a lot of anger.”
While Nyquist isn’t part of the county’s Veterans Treatment Court, he says programs like this can make a meaningful difference.
