A call for children to face mandatory jail time if they breach bail has been praised by Queensland's youth justice minister.
The call comes as voters in the North Queensland seat of Hinchinbrook prepare to vote in a by-election later this month and follows Premier David Crisafulli's election win last year off the back of support for his controversial "adult crime, adult time" laws.
Now, the Liberal-National Party's candidate for the Townsville seat, Wayde Chiesa, is proposing a plan that would see youth offenders face mandatory jail time for breaching bail conditions.
In Queensland bail is a promise made by people accused of a crime that they will follow certain conditions and reappear in court, in exchange for a temporary release from custody.
There are no mandatory minimum sentences
