A GRAND old dame of New England has been given a $2.7 million facelift, turning her into a graceful venue for weddings and functions.

Saumarez Homestead near Armidale now includes two studio cabins, a historic converted home and a dedicated space for recreational vehicles.

The homestead's Jackson Centre has also been restored to accommodate weddings, retreats, business meetings and educational programs.

Nearby, the revamped original slab homestead, Thomas House, can accommodate four guests.

"This will increase tourism and economic activity in the region, as well as strengthen the connection to our unique heritage," deputy mayor Todd Redwood said at the unveiling of the redevelopment on Wednesday, November 12.
