As the sun sets on the city, the lights on this part of I-10 in Gentilly are supposed to come on.

It's dark.

"It's really dangerous. Some other bigger cities — Phoenix, San Antonio — they're also on I-10 ... but they're well-lit," said William Kuykendall, a professional truck driver. "It's pretty dark when you out there in the east, out there."

The city says New Orleans East and Gentilly have the worst lighting problems.

In Reach D, New Orleans East, about 275 lights out of 835 are not working, which amounts to one-third of the lighting along that strip.
