BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —
Thanksgiving is in just a couple of weeks, and travel experts believe even if the government shutdown ends before the holiday, air travel still won’t be back to normal.
Major airlines followed an FAA-ordered reduction in flights on Tuesday. That order required major airlines to cancel 6% of flights nationwide, with another expected jump to 10% on Friday.
Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport wasn’t on the list of airports directly affected by the cuts, but the shutdown is still affecting travelers in Central Alabama.
According to the Birmingham Airport Authority, two departing flights have already been canceled for Wednesday. A few inbound flights were also canceled.
