A young girl who watched on as a teenager killed her grandmother in an act of "indiscriminate violence" says the 70-year-old was not "just a nanny, she was my friend" and she missed her every day.

In February last year, Vyleen White was stabbed in the chest, shortly after she and her granddaughter arrived at a shopping centre at Redbank Plains in Ipswich.

Her now 17-year-old killer, who cannot be named under Queensland's youth justice laws, pleaded guilty to her murder earlier this year.

He also admitted to several other offences including the unlawful use of Ms White's car.

On Wednesday, the teenager faced a sentencing hearing, where submissions were made by prosecutors and his lawyers, with a decision on his punishment due to be handed down on Thursday.
