Asheville and Buncombe County's luxury housing market has faced a significant slowdown in sales in 2025, according to real estate market reports. It comes as the region's housing industry has faced challenges amid ongoing impacts from Tropical Storm Helene and a shifting economy.
As sales have slowed, inventory in the luxury housing sector has soared, reaching nearly 20 months for homes priced above $1.5 million in Asheville and Buncombe County, according to a third quarter real estate market report from Mosaic Community Lifestyle Realty. As of Sept. 30, the number of homes priced above $1.5 million totaled 141 in Buncombe County and 61 in the city of Asheville.
