Thousands gathered at The Pit for the University of New Mexico's inaugural "Salute to Service" basketball game, an event dedicated to honoring military service members, veterans, and their families.
The Lobos tipped off against the UC Riverside Highlanders on Tuesday night, winning with a score of 82 to 68.
The New Mexico National Guard played a significant role in organizing the event, led by Adjutant General Miguel Aguilar, who has served for 35 years and calls Dexter, New Mexico, home.
"We've got a great relationship with the Lobos. The football team has always, has done a like a 'salute to service' every year. This is the first time we've done with basketball. The dates lined up, so we're really excited to be here," Aguilar told KOAT.
