HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) - Dangerous high surf conditions forced two beach parks and a major highway on Hawaii Island to close Tuesday.
Bay Front Highway in Hilo remains closed after the weather spread debris across the road.
Two beach parks, Onekahakaha and Moku’ola, also stayed closed for cleanup after officials shut down numerous parks Monday due to hazardous conditions.
The National Weather Service has extended a high surf advisory until 6 p.m. Thursday for east-facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui, and Hawaii Island.
Waves are expected to rise to 10 to 14 feet Wednesday due to a combination of strong trade winds and a primary swell from the north-northeast.
Officials have not announced when the closed beach parks or Bay Front Highway will reopen.
