Can you spell better than a primary school student?
Well, some of the region's brightest spellers put their skills to the test, as they headed to Sydney on November 7 to compete in the NSW Premier's Spelling Bee.
The western region was represented by three students: Jack Primmer and Ewan Mattick from Hargraves Public School, and William Weatherall from Coonabarabran Public School.
Having two students qualify for the finals was a remarkable achievement for Hargraves, located just north of Hill End, as it has just 13 students in its entire school.
Year 2 student Jack Primmer was one of this year's youngest competitors.
He was required to spell 'saxophone', 'duplicitous', and 'impediment' , failing on the final word.
