HILLSBORO, Ore. — On Tuesday afternoon, Victor Cruz, a Hillsboro grandfather and longtime Washington County resident , spoke with elected officials, friends, and reporters about his nearly month-long detention by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Now released and reunited with his family, Cruz said his fight for freedom is far from over after his arrest last month.

Cruz said he was pulled over by federal agents on Oct. 14 after finishing work early and heading home.

“When I saw the car stop behind me, that’s when I started worrying because I knew that it was ICE,” Cruz said. “When they approached me at my window, they asked for my name, and I replied, ‘Yes, I’m Victor Cruz.’ They asked me to turn off my vehicle, and I opened the door.
