LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Phones across Los Angeles County mistakenly received a test alert notification from the city of South Pasadena on Tuesday evening, officials said.
"This is a test of the South Pasadena WEA system. There is no emergency," read the alert sent minutes before 6 p.m.
Public safety staff were conducting a routine test of the city's emergency alert software when the message was sent, according to South Pasadena police.
"The message was intended to remain within the test system but was unintentionally transmitted to the public," police said.
The city is investigating why the message was sent.
During January's wildfires in Los Angeles, an evacuation warning alert was also sent in error to phones across the county, sparking confusion and worry among residents.
