Councillors have voted to turn a timber bridge on the New South Wales far south coast into a double-lane concrete structure.
Cuttagee Bridge was built in 1892 and features on a tourist drive from Bermagui south to Tathra.
But it is nearing the end of its functional lifespan and is in danger of a structural failure.
Discussions to replace the bridge have generated significant public interest , and three concept designs were put out for public feedback this year.
The first option detailed turning the bridge into a single-lane concrete bridge, with timber used on a shared pathway and the handrails.
A second option was similar, but instead of one lane on the bridge, it would be two.
