British Health Secretary Wes Streeting Wednesday denied speculation that he planned to challenge Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s leadership, following local reports saying that Labour MPs could move to oust the prime minister after the budget later this month, Reuters reported.

Local reports said Starmer could face an internal challenge from within the Labour Party, with some MPs allegedly preparing to act in the wake of Finance Minister Rachel Reeves’s budget announcement on November 26. The reports said senior aides in Downing Street had begun coordinating efforts to protect Starmer from potential leadership rivals, including Streeting and Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood.
