Optus’ Singaporean owner has posted a massive profit lift after Australians suffered a disastrous triple zero outage.

The telcom’s owner Singtel posted a 14 per cent rise in first-half underlying profit on Wednesday, helped by a strong performance from Optus and regional associates.

Singtel reported a S$1.35b ($1.6b) underlying net profit for the six months up to September 30 while Optus reported a 27 per cent rise in operating earnings due to growth in its mobile division.

It follows the Australian telcom attracting heated backlash for a series of failures surrounding a triple zero outage across multiple states, including WA, SA, NT and parts of NSW on September 18.
