A 55-year-old woman, identified as Grace Aaron, has died after consuming a bottle of kachasu alcohol without eating in the Cape Maclear area of Mangochi District.

According to Monkey Bay Police spokesperson Alice Sichali, the deceased was engaged in the business of selling kachasu. On November 10, she reportedly drank the locally brewed alcohol while on an empty stomach and continued drinking until the following morning, November 11.

Sichali said that at around 3 p.m. on November 11, the woman collapsed and was rushed to Billy Hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Medical results from the hospital indicated that the cause of death was low blood sugar levels resulting from excessive alcohol consumption without food.
