When people would ask 10-year-old Julia Schriver what she wanted to be when she grew up, she always said a funeral director.
“I never had an interest in anything else,” the now 23-year-old said.
When people would ask her why, the Aberdeen native could never give a proper answer.
“I’ve just always known,” she said. “It feels like I’ve just always been called to do it.”
Some might say the calling runs in her family, as Julia Schriver’s father, George Schriver – a licensed funeral director and embalmer – is the owner of the local funeral home, Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory.
The funeral home was founded in 1961 by Julia Schriver’s paternal grandparents, Mary and Ray Schriver.
Ray Schriver died when George Schriver was 14 years old.
