Three original paintings by Bob Ross were auctioned Tuesday for more than $600,000 combined as part of a series to help raise money for public broadcasting after the Trump administration cut funding.
The pieces were featured in the famed painter's beloved show "The Joy of Painting," which introduced the art form to millions of people. He hosted the show from 1983 until 1994, one year before he died.
The three pieces were painted in 1990 and 1993. “Cliffside” sold for $114,800; “Home in the Valley” went for $229,100; and “Winter’s Peace” sold for $318,000. Those prices include the buyer's "premium."
The value of "Cliffside" was estimated at between $25,000 and $45,000. The others were valued at $30,000 to $50,000.
More of Ross' paintings are expected to be auctioned in January.
