New Delhi: In a press interaction before the launch of the Shenzhou-21 crew rotation mission to the Tiangong Space Station, Chinese officials provided an update on China’s plans for a crewed lunar mission by 2030. Spokesperson for the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA), Zhang Jingbo said “Regarding the timeline, we remain steadfast in our goal of achieving a Chinese lunar landing before 2030. Our fixed goal of China landing a person on the moon by 2030 is firm. It must be noted that numerous new technologies are still required to be tested and verified. The workload for product development is heavy, quality standards are high and flight tests are closely scheduled, leaving a tight timeline. Each phase of the project faces various risks and challenges.”
