QUINCY (WGEM) - Across the country, groups gathered to celebrate Veterans Day Tuesday, Nov. 11. In Quincy, the Illinois Veterans Home hosted its annual program to honor those who have served.
The event included performances from the Quincy Notre Dame High School band and chorus, the playing of Taps, a three-volley salute and a message from retired Lt. Col. John Bleigh.
The Hannibal native and West Point graduate said events like these offer more than recognition for veterans – they offer community.
“Being with other veterans, it’s almost an automatic kinship. Especially if you served in the same generation, there’s often same deployments that you went on, same countries that you visited, and it’s a small world. A lot of times, [you’re] seeing people that you served with,” Bleigh explain
