The House Rules Committee early Wednesday morning advanced a funding measure that would end the longest shutdown in U.S. history, clearing a key procedural hurdle and sending the bill to the floor for consideration.

The panel voted 8-4 to advance the measure, which passed the Senate on Monday . It’s the first step taken by the House to reopen the government after more than a month of nationwide flight delays, federal workers being furloughed and Americans left without food assistance.
