The Bellevue City Council voted on Monday to approve $36,240 in funding for a newly-lined headworks channel at the city’s wastewater treatment facility.
The facility has been out of commission and operating on backup lagoons since a mishap flooded the facility’s pump room with waste 20 feet deep in March 2023.
The City Council made the funding decision after taking an onsite tour of the facility, followed by a discussion at City Hall about additional sewer facility expenses in coming years and how to pay for them.
Mayor Christina Giordani framed the overall discussion as beginning with the “short-term” goal of bringing the $9.5 million facility back online as it was operating before the shutdown, in fulfillment of an active insurance claim.
