The Northern Lights dazzled night owls across Greater Manchester last night as flashes of colour pierced through the clouds.

The Met Office forecast a rare sighting of the lights , also known as the aurora borealis, across the UK on Tuesday night (November 11), due to a 'strong' geomagnetic storm.

The forecaster said northern parts of the UK - most likely Scotland - had a good chance of seeing the aurora, given skies being clear.

Fingers were crossed across England, Wales and Northern Ireland too, though, as the Met Office said 'ideal viewing conditions' could bring visible aurora further south.
