Four years ago, Florence Blanchard got it into her head that there should be more poetry readings in the area. There had been, in the ‘90s, and there’s a history of the valley being a pilgrimage site for poets. Beat poets Allen Ginsberg and Lawrence Ferlinghetti both made trips to visit the Hailey house where the modernist poet Ezra Pound was born. The house is now owned by the Sun Valley Museum of Art.

So, Blanchard reached out to some 10 people she thought were serious about writing poetry. She dubbed the loose-knit assemblage the Free Range Poets.

At 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, members of this “disorganization,” as Blanchard calls the group, will gather at the Bellevue Public Library for a poetry reading and to discuss their work and process.
