LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Another name is joining the race to replace outgoing U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

Longtime Louisville-based horse trainer Dale Romans is launching a campaign for the open Senate seat.

"I've traveled around the world, but I also saw the plight of the immigrant workforce we needed back here; the ones that are here working, doing jobs that are necessary in this country," Romans said. "We need those people. We don't need a fight. We need a fix."

Romans is identifying himself as an "Independent Democrat," saying as a Democrat from a red state, he would not be beholden to the party or the president.

He was elected as president of the Kentucky Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association in Dec. 2024, which represents more than 6,000 owners and trainers in the stat
