VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Former U.S. Rep. Elaine Luria, a 20-year Navy veteran who helped investigate the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, has announced she is seeking the Democratic nomination to run again in Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District.
Luria, who represented the district for two terms before losing to Republican Rep. Jennifer Kiggans in 2022, is aiming to compete in a diverse, military-heavy district that will be a key battleground in the 2026 midterms. During her tenure in Congress, Luria co-presented the findings of the Jan. 6 Select Committee and voted twice to impeach former President Donald Trump. She has said her campaign will focus on improving economic opportunities for Virginians while holding Trump accountable for his role in the Capitol attack.
