Geomagnetic storm conditions ramped up overnight and into the wee hours of this morning, producing a Northern Lights display that stretched so far south over the United States that colors were seen dancing in the sky as far down as Texas and Florida.

And tonight’s aurora show could be even more intense.

The NOAA NWS Space Weather Prediction Center has been tracking conditions associated with these strong G-4 level geomagnetic storm conditions.

Researchers there say at least three Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) - bursts of solar particles - have shot off the sun in the last couple days and were heading for Earth. Two of these CME waves have already enveloped the Earth. The third is expected to arrive by mid-day today.
