DELAWARE COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) - A Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputy is dead following a crash on I-69 near Yorktown early Wednesday morning.
The crash happened on northbound I-69 near the 245-mile marker, which is northwest of Muncie.
According to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was helping a stranded motorist along the highway when a semi hit his car.
The department says life-saving measures were attempted, but the deputy did not survive his injuries.
“This is a heartbreaking loss for our law enforcement family and for the entire Delaware County community. We are grateful for the outpouring of support and prayers from the public and thank all the assisting agencies who responded to this tragic scene.” Chief Deputy Jeff Stanley said.
