The domain names for all major banks in India, including State Bank of India (SBI), ICICI, and HDFC, have been changed. Previously ending with .com or .co.in, these websites now conclude with .bank.in. This alteration caused some initial suspicion among the public, but it is a government initiative aimed at enhancing the security of the banking system.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) mandated this change to bolster cybersecurity and prevent online banking frauds, particularly phishing schemes where fraudsters created fake websites resembling those of legitimate banks.
Unlike .com or .in domains, which anyone can purchase, the .bank.in domain is a premium and exclusive domain accessible only to organisations registered with and fully verified by the RBI. \
